Yvonne Marie Lewis

Yvonne passed away on February 10, 2023. Her beloved husband followed her on February 17, 2023

A joint memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 11:00am to Celebrate their love and lives.

Yvonne Marie Lewis was born on January 6th, 1942 in Saint Louis, Missouri to Wilfred Sanders Sr. and Opal Lee Sanders. Yvonne obtained her early education in Akron, Ohio and graduated from East High School. Yvonne met Melvin Robert Lewis as a young woman, where she later had a lovely wedding celebration on January 26, 1963 with family. Yvonne later moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 1981 with her husband.

Yvonne worked professionally as a postal clerk and claims examiner for the United States Postal Service. She served the post office for many years until she retired.

As a member of New Beginnings Disciple Ministry, Yvonne had a strong affiliation among the church where she represented and worshipped Jesus Christ.

Yvonne had a talent for crocheting. She loved to sing, dance and party with family. She also enjoyed literature and was an avid reader. She was a real stickler for grammar. Yvonne was known to be a great cook. She’ll be remembered for her cherries in the snow and making tender beef ribs. Yvonne loved to travel; from cruising in the motor home to pitching a pup tent to camp in the woods. She was also a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and James Ingram, a gospel singer.

Yvonne Marie Lewis passed away on February 10, 2023. Preceding in death by her parents, Wilfred and Opal Lee Sanders; brother Wilfred Sanders Jr., Dwight Williams; cousin, Delores Wilbon; grandchild, Jasmin Brewly; great grandchild, Shayleigh and in-laws.

Left to cherish her in memory are her daughters, Deborah (Troy) Martin, Angela (David) Lynn Wilek, Stephaney (Vincent) Moody and Theresa (Kevin) Cooper; Siblings, Vickie (Dwight) Williams, Alece (Jasper) Fambro, Linda (David) Wood, Robin Sanders and a host of 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
