Yvon Koffi Omondele Abathan

Yvon Koffi Omondele Abathan was born on June 9, 1950 to Prudence Abathan and Akouavi De Souza, in the country of Togo. Though he was educated locally he continued to educate himself in various areas throughout his life. Specifically welding and tailoring. Along his lifes journey Yvon became certified as a Couturier which helped his work as an outfitter and tailor.

Yvon eventually moved to the United States and settled in Des Moines, IA. While in Des Moines he continued his welding career at Keystone Electrical Manufacturing Company from 2000-2016. When he retired in 2016, Yvon had advanced to the rank of Senior Welder. He also worked has a Packaging Associate for Gannett Publishing Services.

Yvon worked equally as hard to ensure fellow Togolese immigrants were able to experience all that their new home had to offer. From 2010 - 2014 Yvon served as Founding member and Vice President of the Iowa Togolese Association. From 2014-2016 he was appointed to serve on the Council of Elders. Additionally Yvon helped to form the Association de la Releve de Demain and served as Vice President from 2011-2021.

In his spare time Yvon enjoyed watching soccer and boxing matches; tinkering around as a amateur auto mechanic and auto body restoration and traveling. He also enjoyed the peace and serenity of fishing and hiking as well as the excitement of hunting. Yvon will always be remembered as a highly motivated and devoted member of his family and Togolese community. He was always available to lend his skills and abilities for the good of others. His humorous, playful spirit will surely be missed by all as he had the knack for brightening any dull moment.

On September 6, 2021, Yvon completed his work on this side. His spirit now joins those who had gone on before him: his parents, Prudence Abathan and Akouavi De Souza; brothers, Adebiyi Isidore, Salana Aime and Adeboumi Gilbert and sisters, Omotayo Isabelle and Adenike Odette.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Massan Kpoti; children Nicole Omonlatcho and Bruce Adekoule, Narcisse Ifeolom and Akouvi Adefemi and Kevin Kodjo Abathan; grandchildren, Balthazar, Dayana, and Melkior Djramedo, Ines, Ruth and Rita Abathan, Seli and Soriyah Anonene; siblings, Adeyemi Calixte, Adeleye Odile, Omoniyi Eveline, Omonrohouke Marcelle, Odoumonmi Justine, Odjebiyi Lucien, Yatoude Olga, Adewole Donacien, Adeleye Bibiane and Adefemi Severine Abathan; friends, Romeo Kounedjo and Mensan Esse and a host of other relatives and friends.
