Waukesha Harrison-Speed was born January 27, 1978 in Laurel, MS to Jackie McGilberry and Sammy Lovette.
She was educated in the Ellisville, MS public school system where she graduated from South Jones high school. She also attended Jones County Junior College,
Kesha, as she was affectionately called, moved to Des Moines in 1995. She was a member of Valley Community Church. Kesha was an excellent cook and baker. She made all kinds of beautiful cakes and loved to make casseroles also. She loved children and though she didn't have any of her own, she was a mother to all her nieces and nephews.
Kesha passed away March 18, 2014 at Methodist Hospital. She was 36 years old.
Waukesha is survived by her husband William Speed; her mother, Jackie McGilberry; her sisters, Monica McGilberry, Teresa Harrison, Kimberly Harrison, Chris Lovett and Veronita Lovett; a host of nieces, nephews extended family and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 5 pm Saturday, March 22 at Valley Community Church, located at the Eddie Davis Community Center in West Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at Mt. Aid Baptist Church in Ellisville, Mississippi on Friday, March 28.
