Victor Lee Propes

Victor Lee Propes was born on December 22, 1938 in Fort Worth, TX, to Arthur Lee and Verlene (Reeves) Propes. He was educated in the Des Moines School District and graduated from North High School.



After graduating, Victor enlisted into the United States Army. He served with the Military Police in Frankfurt, Germany and Saigon, Vietnam 1962-1965.



After receiving his Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army, Victor started his life long journey of education. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Consumer Education from Cal State College in Los Angeles; a Master's degree from the University of Minnesota in Business Consumer Economics and a Master of Arts in Continuing Education from the University of St. Thomas.

A man of the people, Victor spent his entire career serving and educating others. He was a determined civil rights advocate working in Minneapolis and Saint Paul. He provided leadership to the community through various organizations; Council on Black Minnesotans, National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, National Urban League, NAACP, Congressional Black Caucus, and Pilot City. He was also an adjunct professor at Metropolitan State University, Lakewood Community College and Minneapolis Community College.

Victor was called from labor to rest on August 14, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Lee and Verlene Propes.

Left to cherish Victor's memory are his children, Pashell (Arthur) Johnson, Tarik Yusef Propes and Hakim Malik Propes; grandchildren, Zachary Winston, Jeremy Lee and Jacob Lee Johnson, Najia and Amire Yusef Propes, Mariah Propes, Elijah Propes and Malik Propes; siblings, Arthurlene Dixon, Paula and Lesha Propes; numerous nieces and nephews; former wife and friend, Beverly Galloway- Propes and a host of other relatives and friends.
