Vera Jean Watkins Taylor was born February 4, 1943 in Des Moines, IA to Charles and Juanita Stewart Watkins.

Vera completed her primary education with graduation from North High School. She furthered her education by attaining a bachelors degree in Social Work from Upper Iowa University. Vera was employed for many years by Northwestern Telephone. After retirement she was a sales associate at Von Maur. Vera also owned her own store, Jubilee Gallery, where she sold toys, gifts boxes and baskets. It was there she became the gift wrapper extraordinaire. You could always pick out the Vera wrapped gift under the Christmas tree. She was one of the founders of "WIN", Women Invest Now and helped women invest in stocks. They made a little money too!

Vera was a long time member of Union Baptist Church. She served as a member of the Mission Society and Choir. She was a quiet spoken woman who lived a life that loudly proclaimed her faith in God. She instilled in her children to believe in God; and reminded all around her that God was her strength.

Second to her love for God was Veras love of family. She loved hosting the Christmas Eve and New Years parties. The Annual Black history family gathering in February was so much fun with everyone bringing historical facts to share. She loved taking trips around town on historical excursions. In her travels, Vera collected scarves. She was a great cook, too. Chicken pot pie, pot roast and New Years black eyed peas and greens were always a favorite at the family table.

Vera was a fierce warrior against cancer. She was a breast cancer advocate and completed many walks for life. She fought and won her last battle on October 7, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Watkins and Juanita (Lawrence) Hall and her sister, Norma Clark.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Tammera Bibbins and Marqueta Bibbins; grandsons, Asante Gilmore and Dalton Green; Siblings, Ron Watkins, Billie (Richard) Martin, Deborah Brown and Neil (Dorinda) Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and her granddog Buddy and great granddog Benzo, along with extended family and many friends.Visitation (with family present)
