Vanessa Nevills, 65, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Services are being held at Maplestreet Missionary Baptist on Monday, December 18th, 2023. Visitation is being held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. With a funeral service following at 1:00 p.m.
Vanessa Nevills, a beloved Manager at Hy-Vee Grocery Stores and a cherished member of her community, has passed away at the age of 65. She was born on October 22, 1958, in Benton Harbor Michigan, to her loving parents Robert Nevills and Elva Jean (Wells) Nevills. Vanessa's zest for life and unwavering dedication to those around her will be remembered and cherished forever.
She attended Benton Harbor High in Benton Harbor Michigan and later pursued further studies at Portland Community College. Her determination and thirst for knowledge were evident throughout her life as she constantly sought opportunities to enhance her skills.
With a kind heart and a determined spirit, Vanessa embarked on a successful career as a Manager at Hy-Vee Grocery Stores. Her leadership skills were unparalleled, and she embraced her role as the boss with grace and compassion. Vanessa was not only known for managing her team but also for being a mother figure to everyone she encountered. She treated each individual with love and respect, creating an atmosphere of belonging wherever she went.
Beyond her professional achievements, Vanessa had a vibrant personality that captured the hearts of those around her. She loved to entertain people with her beautiful singing voice and effortlessly brought joy into any room she entered. Alongside her passion for music, Vanessa treasured spending time with her family above all else. Whether it was traveling together or simply sharing laughter over dinner, she made every moment count.
Vanessa will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her two daughters Dawn Nevills and Nesha Nevills, 12 grandchildren Chaniell, Lauryn, Aysa, Tasanique, Amare, Cameron, Dohmoenike, Zenaccian, K'aani, Daeshon, Amaya and Rahjah, 4 great-grandchildren ShaLay, Carl, Payton and Prince, 19 siblings Dwight, Charles, Joyce, Gary, Dwayne, Melinda, Vernon, Renita, Tammy, Michael, Shelitha, Robert Jr. and Tonja, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and friends who were blessed to have known her warmth and kindness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Corneilus, and sister Lauretta Nevills.
Vanessa Nevills touched the lives of many throughout her remarkable journey. Her legacy of love, compassion, and resilience will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. As we mourn the loss of a truly extraordinary individual, let us also celebrate the gift of her life, remembering the joy she brought into our lives and the lasting impact she had on our world.
