Valerie Chulu

Valerie Chulu was born on May 9, 1977 to Thomas and Elizabeth Richardson, in Monrovia, Liberia. Later in life, Valeria relocated to the United States and settled in Des Moines, IA. Soon after she opened an in-home daycare and remained self employed until her passing.





In her free time she enjoyed dancing, singing and traveling. She was also had an eye for fashion and enjoyed creating ensembles that caught the eye of everyone in the room. Valerie was a long time member of Central Community Church. Affectionately known as “Big Mama”, Valeries loving, dedicated parenting earned her the “Mother of the Year” award at the church.



Valerie passed away on September 17, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Chulu. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Rita (Medford) Chulu, Louise Chulu and Quinjuu N. Ketty; grandchildren, Zephaniah T. Traore and Katiya R. Traore and a host of other relatives and friendsVisitation
