Tyraei Barber

Tyraei DeLawn Barber was born August 10, 1989 to Tommy Lee Gowdy, Sr and (Karen Barber) Dameron in Des Moines, Iowa.

Tyraei was educated in the Des Moines Public School system. He a was a straight A student excelling in Math, and graduating near the top of his class at East High School. Intelligent, funny, caring, generous, silly, sensitive. All these things describe Tyraei. He loved playing basketball and collecting memorabilia of his favorite teams. He was a huge Chicago Bulls and San Francisco 49'ers fan. He loved old school and hip hop music and even thought about being a rapper some day. Tyraei was close to his siblings and was the 'favorite uncle' to his nieces and nephews. But there was no one like Mom for Tyraei. They were ride or die best friends as well as mother and son. He loved his mom's mac n cheeze, and they could just hang out at the house and talk. Oh and did we say he loved jewelry! Bling was the thing. He never left home without being dressed to impress.

And suddenly he was gone... Tyraei left us on March 29, 2016 at the age of 26. He was welcomed to the other side by his grandparents, Elmer Barber, Sr. Mildred Cooper, Ellis Cooper, Eddie and Stella Barber and Charlie Gowdy.

Tyraei leaves fond memories with his devoted mother, Karen (John) Dameron; his father, Tommy Gowdy, Sr., his brothers, Tommy Gowdy, Jr. and Treymaine Barber; his sisters, Nekita Barber and Tiera Gowdy; grandparents, Diana (Ralph) Williams; Pou "Annie" Gowdy, aunts, Lisa Barber, Tina Gowdy and Aretha Gowdy; uncles, Vince, Billy, and Tyrone Gowdy; nephews, Jasean, Maldonado, Johntaviz Maldonado, Tommy Gowdy III, Trey Barber Jr, his nieces, Rayima Maldonado, Samaya and A'niya Gach, Tomraisha, Loyalty and Tommond Gowdy; his best friend, Meechi (Demetrius) and cousins, Quayvon Gowdy, Michael Hardat, Keshaun Lewis, Valencia Gowdy, Venicia and Victoria Gowdy, Billy Gowdy Jr, Scottnecia Perez, Scott Perez and a host of extended family and friends.
