On a hot August morning in 1941, Tommy Parker Williams and Lyda May (Gaines) Williams welcomed a baby boy into their family. They would name him Tommy Patrick Williams.
Tommy was educated in the Des Moines Public school system, where he graduated from North High in 1959. In 1965 he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Tommy served in Viet Nam as a helicopter mechanic.
After being honorably discharged from the service, Tommy became his own boss as a journeyman bricklayer. He started his own construction company. Later he obtained employment with the U. S. Postal service. He retired with over 20 years of service
August 28, 1982 Tommy married the former Marjorie McGuire. They would love and care for each other for 33 years.
When Tommy wasn't working, he loved playing the slots at the casino. He loved all sports, but was a Bulls and Bronco's fan. Tommy was also a great singer and drummer. He sang and played with the Martinells and the Vidualls. He and his cousins sang with a band at the "Blues on Grand". Tommy enjoyed road trips and detailing cars. He was a shopper, especially for shoes! If you knew Tommy, you knew there were two sides of Tommy. The friendly Tommy and the drill sergeant Tommy. He was a friendly yet reserved guy but was a strict father to his children.
On June 16, 2015 Tommy stepped from time into eternity, answering the Master's Call. Waiting to greet Tommy on the side were his parents, Tommy and Lyda; his sister, Alfa Williams-Crawford his grandmother, Ida Mae Guy and his aunt, Helen Williams.
Left to cherish Tommy's memory is his wife, Marjorie Williams; his children, Yoctae (Issac) Johnson, Toni Williams, Tommy P. Williams Jr., Wayne (Carolyn) Murray, Ronetta (Brian) Collier, Markeese Williams, Tamara (Ken) Johnson, Donita and Donald Steele; his grandchildren, Curis and Loren Williams, Se'Karia Cody, Eniya Robinson, Devin, Damar and Danika Johnson; his sibllings, Cara (Tracy) Harris and Raymel Williams; special cousin, Bobby Williams; along with a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, extended family and dear friends.
