Deaconess Theresa Houston (88) passed away on March 6, 2020. A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Henderson's Highland Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church on Thursday March 12, 2020.

Theresa Ann Houston was the daughter of Roscoe Mosby and Virginia Gaines. Born February 24, 1932 in Lake Providence, Louisiana. She received her GED and Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate in Des Moines, Iowa. Theresa was employed by Settlement Services for over 30 years doing what she loved, helping others.

Theresa was a devoted member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was a member of the Sisterhood, Usher Board, Mothers Board and a Deaconess. She was an avid seamstress who shared her talent with the church. Theresa made kitchen and bathroom curtains. She also made robes for the Youth Choir and skirts for the Junior Usher Board. The valance in front of the choir stand is an example of her talent as a seamstress. Her skills have been passed down to her granddaughter, Deborah.

Theresa met the love of her life George Houston as a young woman in Louisiana. They moved to Des Moines, Iowa to start their life journey and raise their children. Theresa always had a green thumb. Her house was filled with plants inside and outside. Theresas favorite color was red, her favorite TV shows were Law & Order and Wheel of Fortune. She enjoyed Wheel of Fortune so much that she bought the game for her grandson John, and then took it back so she could play it.

Theresa often listened to music while in the kitchen cooking and baking, Her grandson, Troy developed a fondness for classic soul music. A family tradition for grandchildren and great grandchildren was baking and decorating grandmas homemade cookies for Christmas. Her pistachio salad was often requested at the church gatherings. It was a "hit" with the members. Her granddaughter Michele has mastered the recipe. Theresa loved hearing her great grandson Sterling play the drums even thought she clapped off beat.

On the morning of March 6, 2020 God called her home. Preceding her in death were her parents; spouse, George; children ,George Jr, Doris, Charles and Virginia; and a brother, Robert Mosby.

Left to cherish her memories are her sons, Robert and Earl (Yun); grandchildren, Michele, Troy, Deborah and John; great grandsons, Sterling Robinson and Cameron Harper Jr.; sisters-in-law, Katherine Williams of Des Moines, and Mel Mosby of Missouri; uncle, Milton Mosby of Hutchins, Texas along with nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
