Tammy Lynne Taylor

Tammy L. Taylor, 52, died Monday, April 1, 2013 following a week of tender hospice care at Kavanagh House. She was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. Despite enduring great pain from pancreatic cancer, Tammy never complained or felt sorry for herself. In dying as in life, she remained concerned about the needs and feelings of others.

One way Tammy showed her love was through her cooking. Every Sunday she cooked a special dinner and delivered it to her friends, family, and the elderly. One of her favorite dishes was 'Chicken Broccoli' casserole. She also enjoyed making pies and cakes.

Tammy was self-sufficient and strong. At the same time, she established, valued, and constantly nurtured many great friendships. She always had a smile and something positive to say to make others feel a little better about their day. She was well-known for her thoughtfully chosen cards and gifts.

Tammy constantly strove to better herself, enhancing her college degree by completing a program in Medical Coding a few years ago. She also always wanted to do meaningful work, which led her to volunteer on several political campaigns. She was a very hard worker and took pride in doing each job well. Previous employers include The Des Moines Register, Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, The Underground, Conlin Properties, and employment through Apple One Services.

Tammy is preceded in death by her father, Marvin Cooper. Survivors include, daughters, Cortney Thompson and Erica Taylor; her mother, Janice (Roger) Innis; her brother, John Cooper; her sister, Marsha Cooper; her half-sister, Marlene Cooper Thompson; her grandpa, Clyde Drain; and her ex-husband and good friend, Jeffrey Taylor.

Tammy leaves behind many special friendships, including Marlene, Cathy, Maggie, Bridget, and Jeff, who faithfully and lovingly stood by her side until the end. She also leaves behind Calvin, her faithful dog. Tammy was loved by many and will be missed.

Tammy had great faith in the Lord and was not afraid of death. She faced her final months with an upbeat spirit, courage, and dignity. She requested that memorials in her honor be donated to the Iowa Wildlife Center; 328 Main St. Suite 208, Ames, IA 50010.
