Steven Fields

Steven "Stevie" Fields was born on October 27, 1964 in Des Moines, IA. His parents, Margaret Fields and Grant Townsell Sr., both preceded him in death.

Stevie was educated in the Des Moines Public School District and graduated from Roosevelt High School. Steven continued his education and graduated with his Bachelor's Degree. Stevie's strong belief in education led him to return to school again. He earned his Master's Degree as a Licensed Master of Social Work from the University of Iowa.

Stevie's mother, Margaret, introduced him to his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was raised at Maple Street Baptist Church under the leadership of the late George H. Parrish. More recently he was a member of Elpis Christian Fellowship, where his good friend and confidant, Tammy Harris-Brantley, is the pastor.

It was in the choir stand of Maple Street Baptist that his gift and talent of singing became known to the Des Moines community. Stevie's voice was a gift from the Lord above. His God given range had the church rocking EVERY time he stepped to the mic. Church mothers would shout, preachers would dance and parishioners would melt into tears during a Stevie Fields vocal experience. His voice will truly be missed by those of us who were blessed to experience his talent.

Stevie had a heart of GOLD and used every ounce of it to affect positive change in the lives of others. He was very insightful. He had the ability to identify any concern or hurt in minutes. But could brighten your day with his infectious smile. He loved his god-children; and played an active role in their lives. He did everything he could to help them reach their full potential. His dream was to see all of them attend college. He was also instrumental in supporting other youth around the city. He was an Edmund's Elementary School Ambassador, Moonlight Pioneer and served on the board of the National Black Childhood Development Assocication.

On September 28, 2014 Stevie stepped from time into eternity. Waiting on the other side to greet him were his loving mother, Margaret and his dad, Grant.

Left to carry on Stevie's legacy are his aunts Lydia Mae Rabun, of El Dorado, AR and Willie Lee Bridges of Pine Bluff, AR; good friend and Pastor, Tammy Harris-Brantley; Godsons, Trevent Wilborn, Leval Wilborn, Marlana Robinson and Larai Bennet and a host of siblings, cousins, extended family and many friends.
