Stephen Jeffrey Stewart

August 3, 1971 — June 10, 2019

Stephen Jeffrey Stewart

Stephen Jeffery Stewart was born to Pete and Paula Stewart on August 3, 1971, in Des Moines, IA. He was born an average sized baby and grew into a larger-than-life man.

He was an alumni of Roosevelt High School, graduating with the class of 1989. After high school, he worked various jobs. He later decided to pursue a degree in Computer Aided Design at Des Moines Area Community College. He did patent drawings at Zarley Law firm. He discovered his passion for cooking in 2008, which he perfected by catering fundraisers, parties and other events around town. He then returned to DMACC, earning his degree in Culinary Arts in 2016. After graduation, he was selected to represent the school in a culinary exchange to Paris, France. It was an experience of a lifetime. During his time at school he worked at Edgewater retirement home as an intern for the kitchen staff. In 2018 he finally achieved his dream of owning his own restaurant and bought Woodys Smoke Shack.

While working at Lens Crafters he met Allison, the love of his life. After courting her for some time, Steve married Allison in 2000, and dove head first into fathering two pre-teen daughters, Brittany and Bethany Hall. Steve and Allison currently attend Cottage Grove Church.

Steve always put his family first no matter his situation and was always willing to give a helping hand to a friend. Steve was a person you could talk sports with, play darts with, have a drink with, or just go to for a bear hug. He was a recognizable person all about town and especially at Carls Place and could rarely go out without being spotted by former classmates, teachers, or any one with whom he ever talked with. Once he was your friend, you had a friend for life.

He died suddenly Monday June 10, 2019. He was preceded in death by daughter Brittany Hall, grandmother Martha Weidmaier, grandmother Marcella Stewart and mother-in-law Arbella Jeter.

Steve is survived by his wife, Allison Stewart; daughter, Bethany and her husband, Thomas Mayo; brother, Nathan Stewart and his wife, Tonya and their five sons, Carter, Sean, Aiden, Gabriel, and Reece; parents, Pete and Paula Stewart; parents in law, Tim and Emily; dog, Judah and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and a circle of friends that will forever miss him dearly.

Thank you so much for being here today and, as Stew would say, "Be good, brother." Visitation
