Sharlotte Ruth Rutledge

Sharlotte Ruth Rutledge passed away on Saturday July 4, 2020. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Sharlotte was born March 16, 1937 in Lufkin Texas to James Hackney and Tempie Morrison Hackney. After completing her primary education she attended Fisk University in Tennessee where she attained her Bachelor's degree. Sharlotte then completed her Masters degree at Prairie View University in Texas.

Sharlotte was an elementary school music teacher for most of her adult life. She loved music, especially gospel and jazz. She played the piano and had a beautiful 1st soprano voice. But she taught more than music. She was always a teacher/mom combining life lessons with singing and common sense. Sharlotte was a great cook (remember her pound cake?) and loved traveling. She was on a bowling team and several boards of Directors. She was very accomplished and tried hard to raise the standards of her students. She loved the Lord and served him at the Norwalk Methodist church and Mt. Zion First Baptist Church.

Sharlotte left this life on July 4, 2020 . Mourning the loss of her companionship are her son, Warren; her step daughters, Nina, Tishauna and Felicia Washington and Laynette Collins; grand daughters Marlea Rutledge, Marilyn Smith, Darryl Smith and Kala Price; her sisters, Sheryl Fuller and Sandra Price and a host of extended family and friends.
