I've come a long way since Jackson, Mississippi, where I was born on July 1, 1950. My family moved to Des Moines when I was youngster. I attended primary school here and graduated from Des Moines Tech High. I made a lot of friends during that time.
I accepted Christ as my Savior as a child growing up at East 17th Street Church of God in Christ. I've always been in church. Little did I know that God had a greater calling on my life. God gave me the gift of singing. I sang in the Sunshine Band, Union Baptist Church's Mass Choir, with the Heavenly Mediators, East 17th St. Choir and the Youth Outreach Choir. Not to mention many Old Ship of Zion's. I sang at a lot of my friends' funerals. I wonder who will sing at mine? I loved working with children and young people, so being a Sunday School teacher and choir director seemed natural to me. I organized youth groups and choirs here in Des Moines and Marshalltown. I helped where ever I was needed.
I loved being a mom. My children were the loves of my life: Michelle, Claude Jr, LaTonya, Brian and DeAndre'. It broke my heart when Michelle passed away in 2006. I love them all dearly.
In May of 2008 I stepped into my calling to the ministry. I had been doing the work of an Evangelist and now I needed the credentials. I enrolled in Kingsway Christian College and graduated from the Seminary with honors in 2009. I joined my husband in ministry as the 1st Lady of Carter Memorial Church of God in Christ. I had a difficult time when my husband, Pastor Aaron Carter passed away in 2010. My health had not been good for a long time, but God sustained me. Sometimes I was a 1 woman committee, but I realized I had to keep pushing, keep praying and keep doing the work God would have me to do. My most recent assignment was to serve and praise God at Faith Tabernacle Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Superintendant M. D. Eppright. My mission was to assist the Pastor and Mother Eppright in whatever they needed to do.
Late in the evening on April 27, 2014, Jesus stopped by my hospital room and whispered, "Come with me." What a joy to see him coming! I am now reunited with my beloved daughter, Michelle; Claude Wilkins, Sr., Aaron Carter and my grandmother, Magnolia Lindy.
I am prayerfully waiting to see my children, Claude (Brenda) Wilkins, LaTonya Wilkins, Brian Wilkins and DeAndre' Carter; my mother, Ruth Williams; siblings, Deborah Williams, Michael Williams, grandchildren, Rileigh Wilkins, Dalton Parrott, Dominick Wilkins, Joe Williams, Jason Williams, Jessica Williams and a host of extended family members and friends. I love you all. Praise God, I made it over. Follow my footsteps.
