Sandra Allen

Sandra Irene Theresa Allen was born on October 2, 1945 to Leo Lenard Griggs and Irene Adella Griggs in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is the oldest of two children born to this union. She graduated from Washington Senior High School where she was very active in FBLA, Future Business Leaders if America. She went on to attend Broadlawns School of Nursing in Des Moines and became a Registered Nurse. Sandra had a compassionate heart and Nursing was more than just a job, it was her mission. She furthered her training by getting a Bachelor's and Master's degree in nursing. She then became a Nurse Educator, training and orienting new nurses and hospital employees. Her Nursing career spanned more than 35 years. After retiring, she still volunteered by counseling stroke survivors. Sandra met and married the love of her life, Frank Gerald Allen Jr. in December of 1966. She was very active in her church and worked part-time at Holy Family Catholic School. She was a member and for a time, the treasurer of the local Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Sandra had a deep and abiding love for her family. She enjoyed keeping in touch and everyone looked forward to receiving her annual Christmas letters.

Sandra was preceded in death by her mother and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She leaves to cherish her memory: her father Leo L. Griggs, her sister Marsha Peeler (Purvis) husband Frank Gerald Allen Jr. her children Frank G. Allen III, (Ann), Marcus D. Allen (Rebecca), Gregory L. Allen (Kimberley) eight grandchildren, 3 brother-in-laws 1 sister-in-law numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and sorority sisters.Visitation
