Mrs. Ruth Doris Archibald was born on December 27, 1914 to Homer and Hessie Lewis (Stevenson) in Des Moines, Iowa. She was educated in the Des Moines Public School district and graduated from Des Moines East High School.
Ruth worked at Iowa Methodist hospital for twenty seven years and retired as an elevator operator and receptionist for Blank and Younkers. She volunteered as a Foster Grandparent for sixteen years at Holy Family where she was known as "Grandma Ruth" and Lutheran Hospital for many years. She was a recipient of the "Character Counts" Award of Iowa by Governor Chet Culver's office.
Ruth received Jesus Christ as her person Savior at an early age and was baptized at St. Paul AME Church. Her favorite verse was Isaiah 40:31, "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and faint not." She served faithfully in he local church as an usher, directed the Men's Chorus, President of the Hospitality Ministry, sang in numerous 'Old Ship' programs throughout the city. She loved reading her Bible, playing the organ at church and at home. The old hymns were her favorite.
Ruth quietly transitioned to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was surrounded by her loved ones.
Ruth's transition was preceded by her father, Homer Lewis; her mother, Hessie Stevenson,; her brother, Jack Lewis; her husband's , William Brewer and Charles Archibald; her daughters, Ada Lorraine Brewer, Mary Lou Monroe and Jacqueline (Jackie) Daniels.
Ruth leaves to cherish her loving memory, her daughters, Wilma Bradley and Carole (Marvin) Poage; her grandchildren, Pastor Roderick (Teresa) Bradley Sr., Ronald (Traci) Bradley Jr, Christie (Robert) Coney, Willis (Ima) Humphery Sr, Debra Humphery, Rivalie (Phil) Carpucci, Steven (Lisa-Payne) Renfro Sr, Eddie Daniels, Michael (Lainisha) Daniels Sr, Terri (Kemp) Johnson, Kevin (Theresa) Daniels; thirty nine great grandchildren, forty two great great grandchildren, five great, great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins church family and friends.
