Ruby DeBrown passed away on October 14, 2019 in her home in Des Moines, Iowa. A public visitation will be held on Monday, October 21, at Cornerstone Family Church, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Check back for a complete obit.
Ruby Jean (Thompson) DeBrown was born on May 1, 1943 to Louis and Imogene (Jackson) Thompson, in Cotton Plant, AR. She was educated in the local school district and graduated from Marian Anderson High School in Brinkley, AR.
After high school, Ruby moved to Brooklyn, NY, where she met and married Calvin Gerald DeBrown and had 6 children. After the children, Ruby and Calvin decided to move to Des Moines, IA, to be closer to family.
While in Des Moines Ruby worked several jobs in the clerical and medical fields throughout her career at the Des Moines Register, Lutheran Hospital and Mercy Medical Center. Rubys favorite pass times included cooking meals and treats for friends and loved ones, reading and writing poetry and singing. She also enjoyed spending time with her neighbors from her apartment complex. There they would tell stories and laugh with each other. Ruby also spent her down time playing Solitaire and Candy Crush.
At a young age, Ruby professed Jesus Christ as her personal savior in Arkansas. She continued her faith walk in Des Moines and was a member of Cornerstone Family Church.
Ruby completed her work here on earth on October 14, 2019. Celebrating her arrival on the other side were two children, Curtis and Anita, her parents and two siblings; Cleavland & Louis.
Left to carry on her legacy are her remaining children, Beverly (Dennis) of Des Moines, IA; Lucinda (Tommy) of Denver, CO.; Margaret (Jeff) of Los Angeles, CA., and Marguerite (Byron) of Memphis, TN.; grandchildren, Sir Albert, Sapphire, Robert, Jasmine, Deon, Nichelle, Tia and Jalen; 14 great-grandchildren; bonus-children, Phyllis (Russell), Jo-Anne (Wardell) and Sherman (Willa) of Chicago, IL.; siblings, Mary Clark of Des Moines, IA. and Cain Thompson of Cotton Plant, AR. Ruby also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and special neighbors from her living community. Funeral Service
