Roger Parkey passed away August 10, 2021.

Roger Lee Parkey, Sr. was born July 14, 1942 to Robert L. and F. Mamie (Simmons) Parkey. Roger was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa and waseducated in the Des Moines Public School System and attended East High School.

Roger furthered his education at 50 years old at Des Moines Area CommunityCollege, graduating with an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. Roger served his country in the United States Army as a Private doing mechanical duties and truck driving. Years later, Roger worked as a Pressman with American Can. With his education and Armed Services experiences, Roger learned great work ethics.

Roger confessed Christ to be his Lord and Savor at an early age and was amember of the Burns United Methodist Church. There he served as an Usher, a doorkeeper serving others as they entered and exited the church. Roger also served as a van driver and did mechanical work on the church van when needed.

On October 30, 2004 Roger joined Lynn Marie Allen in Holy Matrimony. They spent sixteen years together, the two working as a team.

As a trained mechanic, Roger loved cars. He was enthused by drag and street racing cars and motorcycles. Over time, Roger possessed a 1966 El Camino, 1973 Monte Carlo, 1948 Ford, F250 red truck known as “Hank” and a black Silverado that was named “Jack”. Along with cars, Roger had a love for motorcycles. He had a 1969 BSA, Kawasaki 550 LTD and a 1100 Goldwing that was Roger used to give his daughter, Ashley, rides to school. Ashley would often tell her dad how the Gold Wing needed doors.

Roger was a determined man who was fearless. He liked shooting guns andenjoyed hunting pheasants. He was a Cowboy at heart. Roger knew his way around the kitchen as a good cook and enjoyed quail and baked beans. All in all Roger Lee Parkey, Sr. was full of life and joy until the end.

On August 10, 2021 Roger transitioned from this earthly life to his eternal life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. and F. Mamie Parkey; three sisters, Barbara Christmon, Betty Wilkerson and Roberta Keesee; five brothers, Robert Parkey, Kenneth Parkey, Lawrence Parkey, Thomas Parkey and Ronald Parkey.

Left to cherish Rogers memories are his wife, Lynn M. Parkey; children, Tammy Woods, Roger (Rhonda) Parkey, Jr. and Ashley (Zachary Gearhart) Lindsey; sister, Gaynelle Narcisse; brother, Russell Parkey, Sr., along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
