Roger Carl Horton was born to Evans and Lida (Smith) Horton on September 9, 1952, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was raised and educated in the area, graduating from Walnut Hill Highs School. Following graduation, Roger set out to see the world and eventually settled in Des Moines. He met his life partner, Cherie Walker and the two loved and cared for each other until his death.
Roger was a cook for most of his life. He worked for Chi Chis, Garfields and the Principal buildings cafeteria until his retirement at the age of 62.
Roger was a comedian. He loved to talk trash to people and keep them laughing. He was the life of any party. He loved listening to 1970s Motown music, fishing, hunting and telling funny stories. Roger was also a great dancer and loved to dress, back in the day.
Roger passed away October 21, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evans and Lida Horton; a daughter, Tammy Jackson, grandson, Quai Horton and granddaughter Chianti Horton.
Left to cherish Rogers memory are his lady, Cherie Walker; his children, Virgene, (Scott) Smith, Carl T Jackson, Richard (Amy Blackcloud) Horton, Roger (Molly Jefferson) Evans and Virgil Walker Jr. ; his siblings, Clyde Smith, Sandra (Ray) Smith, Yelor Hood, Clara Mae Dillard; 22 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
