Robert Allen Simmons was born on September 9, 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa, to John Harvey and Barbara (Moore) Simmons. He completed his general studies at Tech High School, with the class of 1970. Soon after, Robert furthered his education at the University of Northern Iowa where he majored in Psychology and minored in Sociology.

Shortly after attending college, Robert worked in the Psychology department at Broadlawns Medical Center in the mental health wing. Some years later, he spent the rest of his working days as a Jeep Driver for Firestone. He retired in 2019 after 25 years of service.

Robert, also known as Bobby, enjoyed fishing, collecting photos and family heirlooms. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Bobby loved "The Temptations". He actually considered himself to be the long lost member of the group. Referring to himself in third person. He would say, "David Ruffin aint got nothin on Bobby Simmons!" Bobby was always ready to have a good time. He loved being surrounded by his family and friends.

Robert departed this life on January 1, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Harvey Simmons and Barbara Simmons; grandparents; his brothers, Michael Simmons, Sr. and John Simmons, Jr.; nephews, Michael Simmons, Jr., Choice Elliston and Marshawn Walker.

Left to cherish Roberts memories are his children, Tosha Scott, Toya Scott and AJ Scott; siblings, Dianne Brooks, Ronald Simmons, Linda Simmons, William Simmons, Patricia (Chester) Aaron, Anthony (Berdean) Simmons, Anita Lewis, Robin (Linda) Duncan, Shannon Simmons, Johnny Grubb; bonus sister, Anita Ashby, along with a host of nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

We have other siblings - not known by name that we invite to reach out to us. Memorial Service
