Richard Nickens was born March 1, 1960 in Des Moines, Iowa to Anita Lee Hill and Joseph Nickens. He was educated in the Des Moines Public School System and graduated from North High School.
Richard worked various job throughout his life as a laborer. That was a means to an end. Richard took great pride in supporting his daughter, Breanna. She was the love of his life. Richard had many talents, and hobbies, he was a hardworking man, determined, he had an infectious laugh, he was a comedian, (he would be laughing at is own jokes). He loved fishing, family get togethers, and traveling. Richard always loved to tell stories, he loved being the cleanest brother out there. People would be looking to see who he was, saying, "Man you're SHARP! Richard loved scary and SIFI movies, He grew up boxing around Des Moines. Richard loved to eat; steak and fried chicken were his favorites. He loved listening to old school R&B and hip hop and he loved to dance. He was always the life of the party, and always smiling. Most of all, he loved his daughter, Breanna.
Richard Nickens was welcomed into the heavenly gates May 1, 2022. Preceding him in death are his parents, Joseph Nickens and Anita Lee Hill; brother, Anthony (Bubba) Gilkey; sisters, Bernadette Hawkins, Michelle (Shelly) Nickens, and Susan Brown.
Left here to cherish his memories are his daughter, Breanna Nickens; brothers, Tyron Lee, Dallas Hawkins, and Shawn Gilkey, Sr.; sisters, Alice Jean Buchanan, Tonya Broxson, Jeanette L. Nickens, Lynette M. Nickens, Jovida Nickens, Deloris A. Nickens, along with a host of nephews, cousins extended family members and friends.Memorial Service
