Memorial Services for Mr. Reginald Fowler will be held at 11 am August 16, 2023 at Henderson's Funeral Home.
Reginald Leon Fowler, Sr known as "Reggie" was born on April 30, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa to the late Robert Edward Fowler and Nora Lee (Edwards) Fowler. Reginald played football and wrestled at North High School and graduated in 1962. After graduation he served 4 years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After the military he attended Drake University and was employed at the Des Moines United States Postal Service. While, he was employed at the Unites States Postal Service he met his sweetheart the late Tempie Ruth (Flanigan) Fowler. They married on April 13, 1970 and were parents to Todd Fowler, the late Rhonda (Brown) Egland, Reginald Fowler Jr, and Garrett Fowler. He then worked at IBM as an Assistant Analyst Manager for 25 years; he and some of the family relocated to Denver, CO and then Montgomery Village, MD. Reginald was also a foster parent for Montgomery County, MD for 35 years.
After his retirement Reginald worked at The ARC of Montgomery County as a caregiver and in the maintenance dept. He was President of the MD, VA and DC Iowa Club for many years. He was a faithful member at Emory Grove United Methodist Church, served on the Usher Board, participated in and was a member of the United Methodist Men's ministry, worked with the Youth and Children's ministry, and he would cook for various church functions i.e., Christmas breakfast, fish fry, etc.
Reginald loved to travel, he went on many cruises, he loved to cook, and some of his favorites were barbecue beer chicken, Northern Beans with corn bread, and all kinds of breakfast food. He also loved homemade Apple Pie and wouldn't allow anyone to get a slice saying, "It will make you sick if you get a slice." In addition to this, he loved him some bread pudding. Reginald loved to go on various fishing trips, especially at Solomon's Island. He was a sports fanatic, he loved playing racquetball and golf, his favorite basketball team was the LA Lakers, and he loved watching his Washington Commanders Football Team (former Redskins) play.
Reginald Fowler was preceded in death by his parents Robert Fowler and mother Nora (Edwards) Fowler, and by his late wife Tempie (Flanigan) Fowler, and daughter Rhonda (Brown) Egland. He leaves behind his loving siblings Marsha (Fowler) Madison of Denver, CO, Noretta (Herman) Wadsworth of Des Moines, IA, Duane (Cheryll) Fowler of Des Moines, IA, and Paul (Lucky) Fowler of Chino Hills, CA. His blessed children Todd Fowler, Reginald (Terri) Fowler Jr., Garrett Fowler, Nakita Fowler, Shaunna Edwards, and son in law Woody Egland. Also, his precious grandchildren Ashley Egland, Brittany Egland, Reginald (Tre) Fowler III, Danielle Hebron, Santina Fowler, and Xander Wilson. Leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
