Peggy June Dameron, 82, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024, in Independence, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family. Vistiation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Corinthian Baptist Church in Des Moines. Immediately following visitation, her homegoing celebration will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Jonathan Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
Peggy June Dameron was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on April 14, 1942, to William "Bill" Lenord and Zara Geneva (Gordon) Norfleet. A lifelong resident of Des Moines, Peggy also lived in Albia, Iowa, and Kansas City, Missouri. She attended East High School and became a dedicated member of Corinthian Baptist Church, where she served on the motherboard and cherished her involvement in the church community.
Peggy had a passion for plants and a natural talent for nurturing them back to health. She was an excellent cook who could prepare nearly any dish, and she found joy in hobbies like cross-stitching, coloring, and solving puzzles. Her keen eye for interior decorating brought beauty to her surroundings. Peggy loved to travel, enjoyed music and dancing, and spent countless hours playing games like Bid Whiz and Dominoes with her friends and family.
Family was the center of Peggy's world, and she rarely missed an opportunity to celebrate her loved ones. Known for her warmth and friendliness, Peggy never knew a stranger. She made it her mission to help others feel loved and always brought laughter to those around her.
Peggy June Dameron, 82, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024, in Independence, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Dameron; her parents, William and Zara Norfleet; her sons, James and Michael Barnes and Anthony Dameron; and her son-in-law, Archie White.
She is survived by her children: Zara (Barnes) White, Linda Barnes, Tamri Dameron, and Damita (Dameron) Sterling and her husband, Michael; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her siblings: Marshall Norfleet, Brenda Hutchenson, Silvia Sharp, Michael Thomkins, Monty, Vanessa, and Leslie Norfleet; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends—including her beloved dog, Taz.
Peggy's love, kindness, and laughter will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
