Paul Martin

Paul Lawrence Martin was born to John and Mary Martin in Des Moines, Iowa, on March 20, 1929. He lived his entire life in Des Moines, graduating from Des Moines Technical High School before joining the United States Army on March 28, 1946, to defend his country.





He was joined in marriage with Lue Verdia Wheaton on May 22, 1949. To them were born three children, Paul Jr., Nina May, and John Alfred.



Paul was employed by the City of Des Moines in the Parks and Cemeteries Departments for 36 years, ending his career working at Glendale Cemetery.



Paul stepped from time into eternity on January 10, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, James, Robert, Louis and Charles Martin, his sisters, Arlena Madison, Glenda Barker, Johanna Martin and Maxine Harvey.



He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 64 years, Lue Verdia; his children, Dr. Paul (Linda) Martin, Nina Butts, and John (Patricia) Martin; his grandchildren, Sylvia Butts, Tina Mwaura, Paul Butts, Abigail Martin, Kelsey Martin and Paige Mclain; 12 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.



He is also survived by his siblings, Inez Randolph of Berkeley, CA,

Virginia Hammond of Minneapolis, MN, Geneva Hardin of Des Moines, IA, Patricia Lilly of Chicago, IL, Archie Martin of Miami, FL, Dennis Martin of West Des Moines, IA, and Pearl Johnson of Rowland Heights, CA. along with extended family and friends.
