Patricia Sims

Patricia Sims passed away Sunday, August 9 2020 at the age of 64.

A public visitation will be held at Henderson's Funeral Home from 12-2 pm today, August 23rd.

Patricia "Sista Sims (64) also known as Mz. Pat to friends passed away suddenly in the comfort of her home on August 9, 2020 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Patricia was born on July 12, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the first child to Willie Sims and Martha Barnes.

She was a hard working woman that provided for her children. Patricia worked in Chicago at Loyola University as a cook and worked as a home aide for many years. She later relocated to Des Moines, IA where she worked as a Cook at the Oakridge Day Care for ten years. When Patricia left the day care she started volunteering at Martin Luther King Park where she cooked, cleaned and was a facilitator.

During her free time she loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When family would come to visit she made sure she prepared a meal for everyone before they left. Patricia always kept candy and snacks for when the grandkids and great-grandkids came over. She made sure she gave them to-go bags of candy as well.

Patricias hobbies were going to the casino, playing the lottery, buying scratch off tickets, playing Bingo, listening to music and dancing. She also loved watching videos and learning the latest dances. When the kids would come over she would show them that she knows how to dance and the kids would join in as they laughed and danced together.

Patricia had a big heart. She would give her last to anyone that was in need. Patricia was a loving mother, daughter, grandma, sister, aunt, niece and friend.

Left to cherish her memories are three children, Anthony Sims (Monica), Lisa Sims-Johnson (Toyes), Charles Sims (Laquana); an extended daughter, Kennetha Stigler; her dog, Goldie; Mother, Martha Barnes; six siblings, Willie Sims Jr. (Pamela), Carl Sims (Cupcake), Bonita Sims, Marlene Sims-Holden, LaKeisha Sims - Swoope and Andrew Sims; nineteen grandchildren, Richshun Sims, Anthonae Sims, Antoinette Sims, Darien Sims, Laquita Venson, Jasmine Parker, Richshunda Sims, Antoinece Sims, Keyshawn Johnson, TeLis Johnson, Lashanna Johnson, Naziah Sims, Endia Johnson, Tashayra Sims, Lanaeja Sims, Aniyhra Sims, Lorenzo Sims, Charles Sims Jr., and Lamiah Sims; as well as a host of great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Were all going to miss her dearly!

Patricia was preceded in death by her father, Willie Sims; brother, Maine Sims; brother-in-law, Edward Holden; grandmother, Earlene King and three grandchildren, Antoine Sims, Angel Sims and Angie Sims

Funeral services are being planned for her in Chicago on August 29th. Leak and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.Visitation (with family present)
