Russell Rudolph Kemp, Sr. was born September 11, 1936 to Louis Kemp and Gladys May Brooks in Des Moines, Iowa.



Russell was educated in the Des Moines Public Schools where he graduated from North High School.



Russell enlisted in the United States Army where he received a Good Conduct Medal and was later honorably discharged.



Russell attended Burns United Methodist Church as a young man and was baptized in the Methodist Church.



Russell worked as a laborer for most of his life at several different companies. He was a good brick layer and layed bricks at the downtown YMCA. He later retired from Mid-American Energy in December of 1995.



Russell was married on May 29, 1967 to the love of his life, Pamela Carey. Together they had nine children, Russell Jr., Richard, Ricco, Rusty, Steven Ralicia, Rochelle, Maurica and Kim.



Russell was a family man. He cooked breakfast every weekend for his family. He loved baking sweets, and no one could resist his fudge. He used to fish with his father when he was younger and enjoyed the time they had together. He also had a great appreciation for art, loved bowling, and watching all sports; he was especially fond of the KC Chiefs and LA Lakers.



Russell passed away on October 6, 2013. He is preceded in death by his son, Steven Craig Jackson; his parents, Louis and Gladys May Kemp; and his brothers, Keneth, Robert, and Lewis Kemp.



Russell will be missed by his wife of 46 years, Pamela Kemp; his sons, Russell Jr., Richard, Ricco, and Rusty Kemp all of Des Moines, IA; his daughters, Ralicia Kemp (Des Moines, IA), Rochelle Kemp (Des Moines, IA), Maurica Barnett (Phoenix, AZ) and Kim Robinson (Tampa, FL); his 21 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren with two on the way; his siblings, Shirley Reese (Kansas City, MO), Marlene Westley ( Santa Ana, CA), Evelyn Taylor (Des Moines, IA), and Harold Kemp (Des Moines, IA); along with a host of extended family and friends.
