Mother Genevieve Tolson

Genevieve Daye was born November 30, 1930 to Charles Daye, Sr. and Alice Laverne Powell in New London, Missouri. At a young age, Genevieve and her family moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she resided until her passing.

Genevieve worked most of her life as a certified nurse aide (CNA) in various nursing homes and for home health care agencies including: Bishop Drumm and Sunnycrest, until her retirement in 2005. She was on the Mothers Board of All Nations Church of God in Christ (formerly Jacobs Temple) and studied the word of God daily.

Genevieve was fair and honest. A woman of her word with a no nonsense sort of attitude. She mostly kept to herself and was a private person. She enjoyed spending time with her family cooking and baking, as she did it so well and with love. She will live on in our memory as the matriarch of the family and a strong loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and so much more.

Mother Genevieve (Daye) Tolson, 86, passed away on August 7, 2017 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa with her familys comfort and love at her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank James Tolson; parents, Charles Daye, Sr and Alice Laverne Powell; sisters, Anna Mae Callister and Edna Cooley; her grandson, Frank Renfro, Jr.; granddaughter, Ariona Hardin; brother, Bartholomew Johnson; and uncles, Harry and Wallace Powell.

She will be missed and is survived by her children, Anna (Michael) Morris, Paula Rochon, Gregory Rochon, Percy Rochon, Rhonda Rochon, Tony Renfro, James Renfro, Frank (Penny) Renfro, Francine (Michael) Irvin and Carla (Ernie) Myers; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Harry (Edith) Daye, Charles Daye, Jr., Wallace (Beverly) Bragg, Norma Bragg; and many extended family members and dear friends.Visitation
