Florence Doris McNear, was born on January 25, 1935 in Dallas County, Iowa to Florence Beatrice (Weaver) and James Henry Campbell.
Florence graduated from Des Moines Tech High School and attended Drake University where she obtained her doctorate in Education.
Florence was united in marriage in 1958 to Dr. James E. McNear. They loved and cared for each other until his passing in 2018. Florence and her husband were instrumental in continuing to build Mission Temple Church of God in Christ, along with the Ministry Faith Temple in Perry. They built the current gymnasium from the ground up.
Florence was born to teach. She grew up with a passion for learning and studying and later had a career as an educator for the Des Moines Public Schools at Headstart. She and Pastor McNear were given a vision to build the Mission Temple Academy, which would help educate and inspire young people to achieve goals in education. Her passion and vision led them to build the Florence B Campbell Math and Science Academy specializing in Stem Classes. When Florence wasnt working she enjoyed arts and crafts. She had many hobbies like cooking mac n cheese and sweet potatoes; or playing the piano, the guitar and singing. She also loved to knit, making lots of beautiful caps. Florence was one of kind who loved helping others.
Florence was proceeded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her children, James Jr (Regina) McNear, Julie (Ben Jr) Bell, Kevin (Deborah) McNear, and Karen (Steve) Towers; her sister Mary (Marvin) Allen and brother, James (Pat) Campbell, Jr; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jamina (Jermaine), Jermaine Jr, Jade, Jakobi, Jasmine, Jasmin (Mathew), James III (Krista), James IV, Taylor, Logan, Cora, Spencer, Aria, Dorcelaine (Dominique), Amaya, Latrell, Jaden, Alaysia, Alivia, Jamison, Kevin Jr (Jennifer), Ann, Keven III, Andrew, Deanna, Jaxon, Owen, Brian, Jamilia, Izaiah, Charmaine (Darryl), Corban Charaya and a host of extended family, church family and friends.
