Morris Johnson

Morris Allen Johnson was born December 21, 1951 to Nathaniel and Naomi (Baker) Johnson in Centralia, Missouri. He graduated from Centralia High School and later obtained an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from DMACC in Des Moines, Iowa. While in high school, Morris set a record for the long jump. 20.8 3/4 feet, which was only broken a few years ago. Morris enlisted in the Army and served honorably until 1984.

Morris was employed by AB Chance, in Centralia, for many years; and also the Tampa Auto Store. After moving to Des Moines, he worked at Methodist Medical Center until his retirement.

Morris was an active member at Westkirk Presbyterian Church, serving as an usher. He previously was a member of Elim Christian Fellowship where he served on the Usher Board and helped with the Mens Ministry and Mens Breakfast Ministry.

Morris spent his leisure time listening to Old School Gospel and watching movies, especially action and cowboy movies. As a youngster he played baseball. Morris was compassionate, kind, and helpful. He loved fashion! His hat and shoes had to match. Morris often traveled to Missouri to attend family reunions. Every Sunday you would find him in the kitchen cooking or grilling. His specialty was meat loaf and chicken wings, and he loved him some Chinese food.

Morris Allen Johnson passed away on April 12, 2022, preceding him in death were his parents, Nathaniel and Naomi Johnson; daughter, Cutina Johnson; twin brother, William Harold Johnson; and Nathaniel Johnson Jr.

Left to cherish his memories are his sisters, Lexanna Lyons, Naomi (Jesse) Lanney, June (James) Tyler, Sarah Johnson, John Wesley (Mamie) Simpson; granddaughter, Cierra Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
