Maurice James Collier, Sr. was born to Harry Collier and Augusta Dixon on March 6, 1929, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area, graduating from North High School. Following his primary education, Maurice enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 17, serving in World War II.

In September of 1947, Maurice was granted an honorable discharge from the United States Army. Following his homecoming, Maurice was united in marriage to Margaret L. McKee. Maurice and Margaret (Winnie Lou) welcomed their first child (a son) into the world a year later, unfortunately, he was stillborn at birth. The following year, they welcomed a healthy baby girl (Janice Collier) into the world. The marriage later ended in divorce. Maurice later married Patricia J. Lewis and from that union three children were born (Teresa, Maurice Jr. and Colleen Collier).

Maurice was an employee of AMF Western Tool. He continued his working days at AMF as a factory foreman until his retirement.

In his youth, Maurice was a bowler, a hunter and a fisherman. He liked to have a good time with his friends and watch a ball game. He enjoyed music and was also a gifted dancer, but what Maurice really loved was spending time with his family. Any picnic or holiday or just a regular birthday party, Maurice was there. He was a thoughtful man, and put all of himself in every task. Whether that was working on his car, changing an outlet or even doing your taxes for you; Maurice was an involved person.

On October 8, 2020, Maurice transitioned from time into eternity.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Augusta Collier and his sister, Margarette Clayburn.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Janice Collier of Sun City, Arizona, Teresa Williams of Snellville, Georgia, and Colleen Collier of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; his son, Maurice Collier Jr. of Denver, Colorado; Grandchildren: John Quinn, III of Keller, Texas, Tara Bueford of Buford, Georgia, Cara Gaskin of Keokuk, Iowa, Nikiya Ramsey of Los Angeles, California, Tia (Anthony) Wilson of Aurora, Colorado, and Johnavae (Charles) Campbell of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Ten great-grandchildren and one future great-great granddaughter due in January.Visitation
