Maurice Eubanks

Maurice (Moe) Eubanks, Sr., the son of Frazier and Helen Ruby Eubanks, was born on March 4, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa. He departed this life on Monday, April 2, 2018.

Moe was educated in the Des Moines School District graduating from Des Moines Technical High School where he lettered in softball and basketball. He was also a member of the Golden Gloves boxing team at the Willkie House and won many awards in Pool Tournaments.

IMMEDIATELY after graduation he married the love of his life, DeVelma Hall. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2017. From this union six children were born, five daughters and one son.

Moe united with Corinthian Baptist Church at the age of nine. He served as a Trustee and participated in the music ministry. Moe was a charter member of the Inspirational Chorus which spanned 50 years of service. He also sang in the Fellowship Chorus for over 60 years and was president for over 50. Each month he worked with the director and musician to select the songs and call each of the guys to inform them of rehearsal times , singing dates and what they were supposed to wear. The bond that these men share can never be broken.

In the sixties through the eighties he was a catcher in the Des Moines Fast Pitch Softball League. He traveled all over the state playing softball and was inducted into the Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1987 and was named the "Best Catcher of the Sixties".

Moe worked two jobs for over 20 years supporting his large family, ensuring his wife could stay home to nurture their children. He worked at the United States Post Office as a Mail Handler and Supervisor retiring in 1993. There he was a union steward and was respected for protecting all rights of the workers. He was also a Sky Cap at the Des Moines Airport for over 20 years.

Moe loved retirement. He watched TV with his wife and all sporting events that came on whether it was baseball, basketball, football or tennis. His favorite shows were "Law and Order" and "Judge Judy". He loved his family and took care of everyone whenever possible.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle. He will be truly missed by his family and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his loving wife, DeVelma, his parents, Frazier and Helen Ruby Eubanks, brother, Delmer Eubanks, loving son, Maurice Eubanks, Jr., cousin, Carlos Winters and beloved nephew Marvin "Stacy" Brown.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, JaDeane Stewart (Beadle), Denice Douglas (Napoleon) and Maureen Brewer of Des Moines, IA, Roxanne Cole (Steward) of Centreville, VA and Helen Ruby Drew (Edward) of Chicago, IL; sister, Shirley Brown (Marvin) ; cousin, Twyla Woods-Buford (Rob), sisters-in-laws, Vera Pillow, and Betty Jean Patton of Des Moines, IA, Beverly Graves of Albuquerque, NM; and Connie Key of Casa Grande, AZ; brother-in-law Harold Hall of Ft. Dodge, IA.

Grandchildren: Melody Douglas, Napoleon Maurice Douglas, Danielle Stewart, Alexander Cole (Cheyenne), Austin Maurice Cole and Jayla Drew. Great grandchild: Camden Cole. Special grandchildren: Kaneka Stewart, Kimberly Davis, Shaunetae Douglas, Tasmicha Douglas, Kia Douglas and JaQuarius Drew. Nieces: Cindy Derrick, Joyce Webster, Vera Webster, Barbara Hall, Yolanda Hall and Geni Brown. Nephews: Stafawn Brown, Don McGregor, Charles Webster, Harold Webster, Eric Webster, Reno Hall, Sonny Key and Robby Key.Visitation
