Matthew King, 73, passed away on November 7, 2024 at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation is taking place on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Hendersons Funeral Chapel from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, November 16th, 2024 at 12:00 P.M. at Bethal AME Church.
Matthew Eugene King was born in Greenville, Mississippi on May 18, 1951, to Percy and Florice (Edwards) King. He grew up in Mississippi most of his life. Matthew graduated from Riverside High School, Class of 1970. He began a career in construction as a Sheetmetal Foreman, specializing in roofing. On December 11, 1975, Matthew married the love of his life, Queen Jenkins, in Greensville, Mississippi and they raised a family together. Matthew and his family moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 2005.
Matthew was introduced to the Lord at a young age. When he was 16 years old, he gave his life to Christ. Matthew attended worship services and fellowship at Walnut Grove Baptist in Greenville, Mississippi.
Matthew began working in the mailroom at Christian Edwards Graphics after retirement. He was very family oriented and enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends. Matthew loved traveling and playing pool whenever he could. He was a KC Chiefs diehard supporter every time they played Matthew was there cheering them on.
Matthew passed away on November 7, 2024 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Florice; brothers, Percy King, and Walter King; sisters, Delores Winters and Hosie Corbin.
Those left to cherish Matthew in sweet memory are his beautiful wife, Queen King; children, Matthew Jenkins, Conchatta (Martez) Edwards; grandchildren, Kadijah King, Destini King, Matthew King, Mar’Tavia Edwards; siblings, Herbert (Carol) Williams, Diana Williams; in-laws, Betty King, Mary (Roy) McClure, Reverend Josephine (Rev. Gordon) Wolder; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
