Mary Q. Toweh was born on November 25, 1925 to Dehpu and Dehyea Toweh in Toweh Town, Nimba County, Liberia. Ma Mary emigrated to the United States before settling in Des Moines, Iowa with her family .She brought her Catholic faith with her and worshiped at St. Ambrose Cathedral. She also worshiped at Kyles AME Zion church.
At a young age, Mary discovered that she had a knack for needle and thread work. She could crochet, sew or knit just about anything. In addition to her skilled textile work, Ma Mary also had a keen eye for fashion. She enjoyed wowing others with her stylish ensembles with matching accessories. Ma Mary was just as gifted in the kitchen as well. Her fufu, potato greens and cassava leaf kept family and friends eating until there was none left. Ma Mary had a peaceful spirit that could calm the most savage beast. She was a very wise woman. She firmly believed in peace and that we should avoid quarrels and fights at all costs.
On October 18, 2019 Ma Marys work on earth was completed and was called from labor to rest. She had raised all of her children, grand children and some of her great-grandchildren. She had served God with all she had and it was time for her to receive her reward. She was predeceased by her parents, two daughtersEvangeline and Pillah; siblings including Gblorzuo, George, Daniel, Kahn, Yorh, Laluo-Gartay, Wonzoa and others.
Left to cherish Ma Marys memory are her children, Sue F. Hookes, Ivin Chuku Troutman and Mercy Issa; her remaining siblings and a host grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral Service
