Mary was the fifth born of ten children to the late Thomas and Eliza Hill. She was born March 24, 1926 in DeWitt, Arkansas.
Mary excelled academically, the schools in the neighborhood were not challenging enough. Mary attended boarding school in another city. After completion of high school, she attended AM&N College (now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff)and earned a bachelors Degree with emphasis in Home Economics and later pursued academic qualifications in English. She taught school in the Arkansas public schools until her retirement.
Mary met and married Arnett Harris, her college sweetheart, they had no children but she enjoyed a close familial relationship with her god son Rodney Croseford. Mary and Arnett provided 'a home away from home' for some of their sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins while they pursued their education.
Mary and Arnett were active members of their church. mary will be remembered for her style, poise, etiquette and infectious smile. She was loved dearly.
To cherish her memories are her godson; Rodney Croseford, sisters; Aurelia Keaton of Illinois, Audrey Bibbins of California, Carrie Oliver of Des Moines, IA and many relatives and friends
