Mary Francis Mcmillian

Mary Francis McMillian was born on April 29, 1944 in Meridian, Mississippi to Fannie Bell (Hill) and Monroe Larkin. Mary Lee Smith later raised Mary after her mother's passing. She was raised and educated in Mississippi. In the 50's, the family moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa then migrated to Des Moines. She was a Certified Nurse Aide for various nursing homes and hospitals. She enjoyed helping others and found her position to be very rewarding. She attended church at Kingsway Cathedral.

Mary had a garden that she enjoyed planting in and watching grow. She also loved to cook. Her dressing and fish were the hit of every family gathering. She liked the company of others and spending time with her family.. She liked to listen to the blues along with her police scanner. She was always the life of the party and loved to dance, but she was a strict mother. This didn't keep her from enjoying the small things in life. She will be missed.

Mary Francis McMillian, passed away on July 23, 2017 at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church with interment to follow at Glendale Cemetery. She is dancing in heaven with those who preceded her in death, her daughter, Cheryl McMillian, her parents and Larry Hill.

Mary is survived by her children, Johnnie Ray McMillian (Terry Hill), Virginia (Johnny) McMillian, Arma Jean McMillian, Bonnie Bonita McMillian; grandchildren, Arkeya, DaMarra, Franky, Donnie, DaeRon, Tylisha and Corey McMIllian; her uncle, L.C. Hill; her aunt, Mary Lee Smith; the Smith and Hill Families; 11 great-grandchildren; along with a host of many extended family members and friends.

An open visitation will be held 10 A.M. to 5 P.M., Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Henderson's Highland Park Funeral Home with family present from 3 P.M.to 5 P.M. Memorial contributions and/or online condolences may be forwarded to the family. Visitation (with family present)
