Mary Dock

October 13, 1974 — November 20, 2024

Des Moines

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Mary Melissa Ann Dock who left us on Wednesday, November 20 at the age of 50.

Mary was born on October 13, 1974, in Des Moines, the daughter of Rosemary Johnston and the youngest of 4 siblings. She grew up in Des Moines and attended North High School where she met the love of her life, Johnny Dock. High school sweethearts. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, love, and unwavering support for one another. John predeceased her in 2021 but remains forever in her heart.

A proud mother and grandmother, Mary leaves behind her 5 children Michael, Nicholas, Darrius, Heavenly and Sorenity, and her cherished grandchildren, Kayden, Deliah and Nicholas Jr., who brought her immeasurable joy. She was known for her nurturing spirit, always providing a listening ear and comforting words for those in need.

As a lifelong member of Our Saviors Baptist Church, Mary dedicated her time to church activities and looked forward to attending services every Sunday. She loved to sing but couldn't hold a note. She remained a member of the congregation until health issues kept her away. Although she was unable to attend church service, she remained a servant for the Lord in her own special way. Her faith was her guiding light, and she inspired everyone around her with her unyielding belief in God.

Mary's kindness extended beyond her family and church; she was a friend too many, offering her home and heart to anyone who needed support. Her warmth and laughter could brighten the darkest of days, and her legacy of compassion will live on in the lives she touched. She was and always will be an eccentric and beloved fixture in the hearts and lives of the many people she touched with her particular brand of comfort, humor, wisdom and love. She's flying home on the butterfly wings of angels to be with her family gone before her, to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ.

Mary will be remembered as a selfless, altruistic wife and mother who always had a smile, even when times were tough. She had a quiet strength. She never complained and always remained positive. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined and could still make you laugh. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly looks like.

One of her favorite things was family gatherings with conversations and laughter. Or sitting at the kitchen table enjoying a cup of coffee and chit chatting with some of her favorite people. To know Muffy was to know generosity with the biggest heart to give to others. She was honest, caring, and funny. She loved to pull pranks and she could roast you under the table. Small but always mighty.

Now that Mary has passed into the arms of our Lord, we should remind ourselves that while this is the end of Mary's physical life on earth, it’s the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for her. She is survived by many loving family members, including her sister Laura and her brother Chad. Her best friend Patrina, her children and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, and aunts. She is predeceased by her mother Rosemary, her loving husband John and her big sister Lisa. Muffy will be dearly missed but will always be remembered for her faith, love, and the light she brought into the world. She is now at peace, embraced by the grace of God and reunited with her beloved husband.
