Marvin Keith Griffin I, born on March 11, 1960, in Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on November 23, 2024, in Mahaska County. He was 64 years old. Marvin was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose love for his family, faith, and country defined his life.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Griffin and Barbara Wesley, his sister Cindy Griffin, and his brother Paul "Mr" Griffin. He is survived by his siblings, Kevin Griffin and Byron Griffin.
During his time at Tech High School in Des Moines, Marvin met Shelley Wilson while they were both part of the Marine Corps JROTC program. From their marriage, they had three children: Amy Griffin (Chad Stover), Tyree Griffin (Michelle Griffin), and Marvin Griffin II (Krystal Reeves), and later took in as his own sons Kelvin Robinson and Brandon Robinson (Grace Robinson). He also leaves behind several stepchildren that he dearly loved.
Marvin was the proud grandfather of Jonah and Christian Stover; Carter, Aliyah, and Lincoln Griffin; Rylee Griffin; Abbie Reeves, Alivia, and Aubrie Christensen; and Elijah Robinson. He adored his grandchildren and cherished the time he spent with them.
After high school, Marvin joined the United States Marine Corps, an experience that became a cornerstone of his identity. He proudly lived by the Marine Corps' values of honor, courage, and commitment, and he carried that pride with him throughout his life.
Following his military service, Marvin spent many years in the food service industry, most recently as a manager with Sodexo at Drake University in Des Moines. Known for his infectious positivity, Marvin's favorite phrase at work was, "I LOVE MY JOB!" His joyful demeanor and dedication left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.
A devoted Christian, Marvin’s love for Jesus and his family was the foundation of his life. He found great joy in sharing the Word with others. Marvin also loved fishing and spent many hours on the water with his children.
Marvin will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his generosity of spirit, and the happiness he brought to those around him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
