Martha Hall Bentley was born May 23, 1947 to James Brown and Maxine Hall in Laclede, Missouri. Martha was educated in the Des Moines public school system and was one of the first four black women to graduate from Roosevelt High School. Martha then went on to attend college at Wentworth Military Academy and DMACC.
Martha spent most of her adult life working as a Social Worker and Teacher for organizations such as the Head Start Center, Department of Human Services and Urban Dreams. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Tulsa OK, where she sat on the Mothers board and was a member of the choir as well. She was also a choir and Mothers Board member at Emmanuel C.O.G.I.C. Martha will be remembered as a loving mother, family member, and friend.
Martha made her transition to eternity March 19, 2021. She is preceded in death by her previous husband ,Otis Lavon Graves Sr., husband, John Russell Bentley Sr.; parents, James Brown and Maxine Hall; brothers, Ralph Hall Sr. and William Hall.
Martha is survived by her children: Antonette Bowlin, Cheryl Tolson, Otis Graves Jr., Teresa Graves, John (Annie) Bentley Jr.; sisters, Kathy Hall and Diane Hall; six grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.Visitation (with family present)
