Marijane "Jane" Y. Sherman

Des Moines

Marijane “Jane” Yvon Sherman born March 8, 1942, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines.

Jane grew up in Tracy, Iowa and was the daughter of Cecil F. and Beulah F. Sherman. She graduated from Tracy High School where she played on the basketball team. After school, Jane went to Iowa Methodist Nursing School and became a nurse at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Shelater became an oncology nurse where she befriended many of her patients. They all appreciated her kindness, care and compassion. During this time, she raised her children, Bret (Kyla) Cox and Lisa (Mark) Manley. She taught them the value of working hard and the importance of family and friends.

Jane joined The Iowa Ski Club in the 1980’s and developed many lifelong friendships. One of which was Louis Saak who would later become her partner for 30 years. She was most happy when spending time with friends and family, especially her 3 grandchildren Amanda Barach, Daniel (Jessica) Manley, and Nathan (Krista) Cox; 8 great-grandchildren Makayla, Elijah, Maya, Justice, Calissa, Nicholas, Natalya, and Mila; 2 great-great-grandchildren Alanah and Arah. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Cecil and Beulah (Binns) Sherman and her brother Marion Sherman.

The family will have a Celebration of Life on November 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Izaak Walton League (4343 George Flagg Pkwy, Des Moines, IA 50321).

In lieu of flowers the family asks to consider memorial donations made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
