Marietta Kennedy

Mrs. Marietta Kennedy, 82 passed away Augut 12, 2023 at Trinity Luther Park.

Marietta Kennedy was born on January 22, 1941 in Iowa to Aulie Everette Cooper and Clarabell Elizabeth (Bush) Cooper. Marietta was educated and graduated from East High School in Des Moines, Iowa. She continued her education and became a teacher within the Des Moines Public School System, teaching first and second graders. Marietta spent most of her career as a program assistant. She was employed at Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Department, where she used her culinary gift to teach others how to cook. And she could cook! Good old soul food was her specialty.

Marietta met Jimmy L. Kennedy and they were married in 1997. They loved and cared for each other for over 25 years.

Marietta was a member of Bethel AME Church for many years. She was a former first lady (Rev. Willard Latrell), who directed and sang in the choir. She later changed her membership and joined New Beginning Full Gospel Family Church. She came from a long line of creative women who loved to write and create plays. She also enjoyed travelling. Marietta was a talented seamstress and even made her own wedding dress.

Marietta passed away on August 12, 2023. She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Cooper and sister, Reverend Cleta Cooper.

Left to cherish Marietta in loving memory are her husband, Elder James Kennedy; a daughter, Vivienne Cooper; grandson, Jeffrey S. Muleya II; great-grandchildren, Jeriah and Kyah; her best friend, Norma Jean Carter and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
