Margaret M. May

A Memorial Service will be held at Henderson's Chapel on Friday, July 12, 2024 at the hour of 11:00 A.M.

Margaret M. May was born April 20th 1925 to Mae Brooks and Charles McCracken in Iowa, with her four siblings. Spending time living in California and graduating high school, she later returned to Des Moines and pursued a career in education with Des Moines Public Schools.

Margaret served as a major pillar for her family and community, often taking time to care for others while placing her own needs aside. 

She enjoyed talking to her family, whether they be in town or long distance, and never forgot a birthday. One could expect to see a birthday card arrive in your mailbox, with well wishes for another year and a five dollar bill.

Living on her own in a downtown Des Moines apartment for the last 22 years, and paired with her motto of “always keep moving”, fueled her journey of 99 years.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters; Carolyn T. Robinson, Jessica A. Gaines, sons; Michael C. May, Mark C. May, and Charles L. May, granddaughters; Bridgett Robinson, Charee May and Kamica May, grandsons; Robby Robinson, Clyde Duke Jr., Dwight Gaines Jr., along with many great grandchildren, cousins and lifelong friends.
