Madelyn Mae (Smith) Delaney was born the youngest of three children to Morris Ivus Smith, Sr. and Thelma Joan Graves on December 18, 1941.

Madelyn gave birth to four children: Dianna Lynn, Bryan Kenneth, Roxanna Darlene and Darrell Ray. Madelyn set an example of family to all her children. She was an exceptional mother and close friend.

Madelyn's commitment to the Lord came early in life at St. Paul AME, where she ahs been a member from an early age. She served as a class leader and interfaith hospitality network until recent years.

Madelyn graduated from Des Moines Tech High school and DMAC. She was a member of Brotherhood and Sisterhood Drum and Bugle Corp, Elks drum and Bugle Corp and the Iowa Club of Des Moines.

Madelyn worked a Western International for 23 years, the Department of Transportation for 13 years, and then John Deere Credit services for 10 years before retiring.

Madelyn passed away October 28, 2013Preceding Madelyn in death were her parents, Morris Smith, Sr. and Thelma Calderon; her brother, Morris Smith, Jr.; her sisters, Jeannette Wilson, Sara Smith and step-sister Patricia Givens.

Madelyn is survived by her children, Diane (Andre) Handley, Brian (Carmen) Smith, Roxanna (Gary) Jackson, Darrell (Chan) Delaney; step children, Sandra (Charles) Walker, Richard Delaney, Vanetta Wright; step-sister, Marie Calderon; step-brothers, Eugene Camp and Bob Calderon, Jr., devoted friends Gloria (Bobby) Wilson and George Delaney, 25 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
