Lutie Rayetta (Hutchins) Gibson was born on September 21, 1944 to Marvin Hutchins and Dorothy Ella (Wilhite) Hutchins in Mexico, Missouri.
Lutie was educated in the Columbia Public School System and after her graduation from Garfield High School, she set out to make her way in the world. Lutie moved to Des Moines in 1962 and soon obtained employment with Mercy Medical Center. She retired in 2007, but didn't rest.
Lutie loved keeping busy by going shopping, cooking her famous ambrosia cake, peach cobbler and "Paula Dean's" fried chicken. (She loved watching Paula Dean and trying out her recipes on the family). Lutie loved listening to the blues and she could sing them too. She would belt out a blues song during the family gatherings or just around the house while she cooked. Lutie loved to play Bid Whist and of course she was great at spoiling her nieces and nephews.
Late in the evening on April 23, 2013, Lutie's guardian angel took her by the hand to lead her home. Waiting to welcome her were her parents; her brother, Marcus Hutchins and her sister, Katherine Fountleroy.
Fond memories of Lutie are left with her sisters, Minnie Rowland, Lillian Brown, Sherri Payne, Francis Hayne and Leantha Johnson; her niece and caretaker, Lisa Logan; 18 additional nieces and nephews, other extended family and friends.
