The Angel of Deliverance came and took our beloved Lula Mae Paige-Buchanan home to be with the Lord on March 28, 2017. She was at home, surrounded by her family, when she made her peaceful transition.
Lula Mae was born August 29, 1934 to Littie Smith and Peter Marshall in Bosco, Louisiana. She was baptizted in the river at an early age under the leadership of the late B. J. Washington at the Cuba Baptist of Cuba Baptist Church before moving to Monroe, Louisiana. She was united in holy matrimony to the late John Paige. Lula was blessed with four children, three of which preceded her in death.
After moving to Des Moines, Lula was employed by Methodist Medical Center. She spent over 30 years working for Methodist and had to be convinced to retire. She was very frugal, but didn't mind spending money for suits and heels, so she could look her best going to church on Sunday. She would bribe the kids with trips to 'Old Country Buffet' if they would go to church with her. When she had free time, Lula liked to cook. She made Monster cookies and oatmeal cookies by the buckets. Those were the grandchildrens' favorite, but her Louisiana pound cake, baby that was something!!!
Lula's children Alvin, , Emily and Mary Paige preceded her in death. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Willie Mae Landers; ten grandchildren and a host of great granchildren; her sister Willie Mae Head, her former husband and friend, David Buchanan, extended family and friends.Viewing
