Lois Hunt

Lois J. Hunt was born June 5, 1930 in Des Moines, Iowa to Edward Vance Frazier and Roberta (Roman) Frazier. She was one of seven children born to that union. The J was for Joanne, the middle name she adopted for herself.

Lois was a lifelong resident of Des Moines, graduating from Lincoln High School. After high school she obtained a job as a computer technician for the U. S. Postal Service. She served faithfully for over 30 years.

On July 29, 1946, Lois married the love of her life, Wilbert Hunt. They were a strikingly handsome couple and very active in church and the community. Lois parents were founding members of Shiloh Baptist Church and Lois and her siblings were raised in church. She sang in the choir, supervised the Red Circle Girls, and was an usher. In 2010, some of the old members of Shiloh formed a new church. Deaconess Hunt was one of the founding members and also suggested the name of "Faith" Missionary Baptist. It was voted on and approved and a new congregation was born. Deaconess Hunt was the Chair of the Deaconess Ministry. She was a traditionalist and loved old school church. Her church family was almost as important as her own family.

Once she started her family, she loved being a mom so much she became a foster mother to several children. "MeMe", as she was affectionately called was the ultimate grandmother. Her grandchildren asked for advice, went shopping with her, had her babysit, went to basketball games, attended church with her and loved on her whenever possible.

Lois was a GREAT bowler! She was on several leagues as a bowler or the secretary. She was the 1st chaplain of the CSBG for over 30 years and a charter member of the Roadrunners bowling league for over 40 years. She was the founder of the Will Hunt Bowling league, established under her late husbands name. Lois loved traveling to tournaments all over the country. When she wasnt bowling she was an active member of the Iowa Assoc. of Colored Womens Club, or cooking for her family. She was known for her delicious Peach Cobbler! Lois was a strong woman of faith, with a million dollar smile, that would light up any room.

On Sunday, February 11, 2018, Meme answered when God called her name. She was 87 years old. She was reunited with her husband, Wilbert; her children, Diane, Craig (Rocky) Sr. and Todd; her parents, Edward and Roberta Frazier; her siblings, Nathaniel, Robert, Minnette, Lorraine and Betty; and her son in law, Melvin Glover.

Left to cherish her memory are her children; Linda Glover, Pamela Hunt, Edward Artie (Sarah) Hunt; her chosen daughters, Linda Reeves and Jennifer Flute and son in law, Ben Nicks, Sr.; her brother, Edward (Ruby) Frazier fourteen grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren (with another great grand and great great grandchild on the way) a host of nieces, nephews, church family and many friends.
