Lillie Mae Tate

On May 5, 2017, Mrs. Lillie Mae Tate stepped from time at Iowa Methodist Medical Center into eternity when she answered the Lords call home to rest at 12:58 am. She was 95 years old.

Mother was born December 29, 1921 in Clarksville, Missouri to William Douglas and Corinne Massey. She attended the Clarksville and Canton, Missouri Schools and was a graduate of the Des Moines Public School System. She was married to Clifford Tate of Ten Mile, Missouri, and lived in Canton for several years before moving to Des Moines more than fifty years ago.

Mother worked as a dietician at Broadlawns Hospital, but was best known for being a housekeeper and cook for the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rosenfield of Des Moines before retiring. She was a member of Maple Street Baptist Church.

Mother loved to sing, dance, travel, sew, play bid whist and pinochle, cook, garden, fish and bowl. She loved dogs, especially her beloved Jobie from past years. Among other bowling leagues, she was a long-time member of Road Runners Bowling Guild and with her team and her daughter, the late Evelyn Inez Morgan, traveled to bowling tournaments around the country.

Always one who enjoyed playing games, one of Mothers last "competitions" was to participate in the "Senior Olympics" at Karen Acres Health Care Center in Urbandale, Iowa, where she was a recent resident. She won two medals!

Besides her parents and sister Hattie, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Evelyn Inez Morgan; her son, Donald Eugene Tate, Sr.; a grandson, Christopher Morgan; and a son-in-law, Zack E. Hamlett, III.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Eleanora E. Tate; eight grandchildren: Gretchen Tate, Elizabeth Bruce, Donald Tate II (Tamara), Brian Tate (Jill), Gary Tate (Yolanda), Timothy Tate, Kel Leigh Tate (Brandon Dodson), and Damien Tate (Matty Smith); nine great-grandchildren: Autumn Coleman (Anthony), Jheris Williams (Sedrick), Kolby Tate, BJ Tate, Drake Tate, Madison Tate, Olivia Tate, Lola Tate-Dodson, and Quinnlyn Tate; five great-great grandchildren: Charles Anderson III, Kordelle Anderson, Aniyah Anderson, Avayah Williams, and Zoee Coleman; a special daughter, Sharon Lee Tate; special nieces: Kathryn Tate Hodges and Janice Robinson; and a host of friends and relatives.
