Lena Gross

Lena Mae Gross was born December 28, 1961 in Des Moines, Iowa to Grant Townsell and Ardean Louise (Key) Gross. She was lovingly raised by her mother and step father, James Gross.

Lena was educated in the Des Moines public school system where she graduated from Des Moines Technical High School. She furthered her education by attending Des Moines Area Community College. At the time of her death, Lena had almost completed her Human Services degree.

Lena was a member of Corinthian Baptist Church and loved greeting people as they came in for service.

Lena was currently employed part time as a housekeeper, but for many years she ran an in home day care. Ms. Lena's day care kids were well cared for and mannerable. Lena loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandkids. Family gatherings were a fun time for her. She was a great cook, so the family gatherings were a way to show off her culinary skills. She made the best spaghetti, and man, oh man; her guinea grinders were the best! She dreamed of one day owning her own restaurant. She also wanted to be an actress. Lena was BRUTALLY HONEST. Don't ask Lena if you couldn't handle the truth about yourself or the situation. She loved to shop and was a fashionista in her younger days.

Lena passed away suddenly on July 26, 2016 at the age of 54. Gone too soon, she was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ardean Gross and Grant Townsell.

Left to cherish Lena's memory are her children, Danielle Edwards, Dominique Gross, Diondre Gross, Demitreas Gross and Denzel Gross; her siblings, George Key, James, Larry, Linda and Ricky Gross and her beloved grandchildren: LaRon, Dejanna, LeShae, Steven Zharia, April, Jayden, Kymani, Kymarie, Diondre, Jr., Dontrea, Kyliyah, Kmari, Marley, Demetreus Jr., Demitreon, Demitron, Dilleon, SaNyla, Kyson and Zionna along with a host of extended family and many, many friends.
