LaVonne Minnie Young was born to John and Ruby (Terrill) Derrick on April 18th, 1921. She was raised and educated in the Des Moines area, graduating from East High School. Following her graduation, LaVonne pursued a career in the medical field, obtaining her certification as a Certified Nurses Aid. She would work as a CNA for over 35 years in the Des Moines area at Mercy Medical Center, and eventually at Scottish Rite Park. LaVonne would later retire in 1985.
LaVonne was saved at an early age and even though she did not have a church home, she had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She loved doing crossword puzzles, working in the yard and upholstering Do-It-Yourself projects. She also enjoyed going to Prairie Meadows to watch the horse races and, run a few dollars through the slot machines. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Larry, Renee, Carolyn, Kathy, Tony Young, and 12 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruby Derrick, son, Perry Jackman, brother, John Derrick and sister, Wacill Higgins. Memorial Service
