Mrs. Laura Belle Allen was born February 8, 1936 to George Bruner and Hattie Mae (Buckner) Bruner in Fulton, Missouri where she grew up. She later moved to Jacksonville, Illinois with her family where she attended school.
In 1958, at the age of 22, Laura moved to Des Moines, IA. Four short years later, in 1962, Laura married the love of her life, Thomas Ed Allen. The two were blessed with one daughter, Tracie.
At an early age Mrs. Allen confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a long time member of Bethel AME Church, under the current pastorage of Pastor Brigitte Black. She served Bethel as a member of the church choir.
Laura was blessed with a loving, caring spirit. Special care was always taken when caring for her family and friends. She was a great cook, especially her BBQ ribs and pork steak. In her private time, she would often watch "Matlock", "The Andy Griffith Show" or old western movies. She was also very crafty. Her husband would often throw his old matchsticks away. Laura, must have gotten tired of seeing all those sticks go to waste and after while she began to build works of art with them. She built a doll house, birdhouse and a church to name a few. Yes Laura was a well rounded woman.
On August 3, 2014 Laura was called from labor to reward and her sweet, funny, nurturing demeanor will be deeply missed. However, she was reunited with her husband, Thomas Ed Allen; her parents, George and Hattie Mae Bruner; five of her sisters and five of her brothers.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Tracie Allen; her grandchildren, Reeio Sumabat and Denise Sumabat; a sister, Gertrude Lee; her brothers, Willie and Charles Bruner; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
